What money cannot buy
Beginning with the question 'What do you have, or want, that money can't buy?', the work brings together contributed messages and personal objects alongside photographs, journals, old keys and found materials.
These objects were housed within walk-through cardboard structures resembling shrines. Discarded technology and once useful objects were placed alongside possessions that had lost their practical purpose but retained deep emotional value, like a single wedding shoe, fading photographs and worn journals.
Personal artefacts
By bringing these objects together, the work asks where value resides. Why does one object become waste when it is no longer useful, while another becomes precious because of what it remembers?
The installation considers how keeping, using and preserving objects allows them to become personal artefacts: physical traces of people, relationships and moments that might otherwise disappear.
